Search Emission Metrics

This tool returns emission metrics associated with your query. An emission metric is an estimate of a quantity of pollutant emitted within defined geographic, temporal, sectoral, and/or procedural boundaries. Air pollutant inventories, including those found in this Portal, typically feature the following parameters: Place (country or state/province/territory); Year (or range of years); Pollutant (or pollutant family); Source Category (or subcategory); and Estimation Methodology. Note: Fuel (another key parameter) is not included at this time, because it is not well-defined in the available inventories.

The parameters included in each inventory are shown in the Inventory Overview table below.

Select from the parameters below to refine your search. To ensure that your query returns results, refer to the Inventory Overview table to select parameters that are compatible with one another. Note: When selecting a Source Category or Estimation Methodology, we recommend that you click on the “i” icons for more information.

Search Tools

The Search Tools on the left-hand sidebar menu allow users to query the available inventories. Users can search the database for information by inventory, place, source category, pollutant, estimation methodology, emission metric, or guidance document.

  • You can use the Browse by Inventory search tool to view a list of all the inventories in the database, then click on any inventory name to explore the data via a variety of options (e.g., place, pollutant, source category). Note: throughout this website, textual information taken from inventories and guidance documents is included in the language in which it was originally published.
  • If you prefer to search the available inventories using a refined query, you may wish to use the Emission Metrics (Advanced Search) tool: This tool returns emission metrics associated with your query. An emission metric is an estimate of a quantity of pollutant emitted within defined geographic, temporal, sectoral and/or procedural boundaries, or parameters.
  • The other search tools in the left-hand sidebar menu serve as additional ways to explore air pollutant emissions inventory data. Clicking on any of these will bring users to a Query page, featuring various sources of information such as “Quick Links” and a drop-down list of associated variables from which to further refine the query. Please see the Query pages documentation to learn how to structure and refine your search of the database.
  • Depending on the options selected, users will either be directed to additional selection options to further refine their search, or to a Search Results page displaying the results of their query. Users may also use the application programming interface (API) to craft refined queries. Consult the API Reference to learn about the queries and parameters available for each query.

Please note that queries will return a maximum number of 4,000 results. Users who wish to compile a larger set of information can do so by running multiple queries, searching for instance by year, pollutant, place, and so on, to retrieve the desired results.
